USA Win Top of the Table Clash against Argentina

Canada cruises to victory against the Cayman Islands

Bermuda register first win of the tournament

At the Jimmy Powel Oval, the USA women maintained their winning record with a victory in the top of the table clash against Argentina by 10 runs.

In a low scoring encounter the USA women?s score was lead by Nadia Gruny (27)  and  the belligerent Karen Bayles who scored (20) including a towering  six over longoff.  Bayles innings were crucial as her team had slumped to 49/5 midway through the 12th over and all of the top order batters were back in the pavilion.

Argentina's fielding, that was the highlight this week so far, was tested today and uncharacteristically, several fielding errors allowed the USA to finish their innings at 92/7/in the allotted 20 overs.

The Argentine's innings started cautious as wickets fell early; with a mounting run-rate Argentina looked for a partnership in their quest to overtake the Americans score however they ended 10 runs short of the Americans score at the end of their overs.

At Smith Road Oval, the bottom of the table clash saw Brazil win the toss against Bermuda and they elected to bat.  The Brazilians posted their best total thus far in the tournament, thanks to scores from Ana Vicentin (22), Karina Lagoa (21), Erika Reinehr (14) and Juliana Brito (12) to finish 83/4 from 20 overs.

Bermuda's reply was cleverly constructed, as Brittney Marshall with a class knock, bludgeon her way to (40*).  She had good support from Rickelle Smith (12*) in a stand of 46 runs that took them to victory and Bermuda's first points for the tournament.

In the afternoon match at the Jimmy Powell Oval Canada stormed to the top of the table on run-rate with a resounding 106 run victory over the Cayman Islands.

Canada won the toss and elected to bat and posted the tournament highest total to-date 191/4 in their 20 overs, lead by a sparkling (99*) from Joanna White and (48) from Durriya Shabbir in a 3rd wicket partnership of 147 runs.

The Caymanian women's batting would need a full overhaul from the previous games if victory was going to be established, however their batters played more for personal pride and Carmel Harms (26), Molly Ann Moore (20) and Wyvonne Forbes (15) insured the local spectators had something to cheer about as they finished 85/6 from their allotted 20 overs.
