ICC U15 Regional Championship for the Sir Henry Tucker Trophy

The BCB is pleased to announce that Bermuda will host the ICC U15 Regional Championship, August 4 - 9, 2008. Bermuda, USA, Canada, Cayman Islands and Bahamas will compete in a week long tournament for the Sir Henry Tucker Trophy.

The Regional Championship is a bi-annual event which Bermuda has won four out of five times, beaten only by USA in match reduced to 15 overs due to bad weather conditions. As there is no ICC U15 World Cup, this is the highest level of competition that our U15 side will face.

For the first time in the history of this competition, Bermuda will be entering two sides, the Bermuda National U15s and the Bermuda U15 Development X1. The Bermuda squad has been in regular training since October. They attended an elite training camp during the Easter break and are currently on a 10 day training tour in Barbados. In addition, several members of the U15 National Team are competing in the U18 Sir Garfield Sobers Tournament.

President, Mr. Reginald Pearman stated,

"On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank the Bank of Bermuda Foundation once again for their support of the tournament, Dunkley?s, the Ministry of Transportation and Digicel for supplying the drinks, transportation and phones throughout the Championship. In addition, I would like to thank the Clubs who have volunteered their venues and the individuals who have volunteered their time to assist the teams during their stay. The smooth running of this tournament could not be accomplished without them."

Mr. Pearman concluded,

"The ICC U15 Regional Tournament will provide an opportunity for our boys to test their skills against some of the best players in the world in their age group. Tournaments like this allow our boys to experience other cultures and to make friends with their fellow players from around the world. This tournament is special because Bermuda will be playing at home with local support. We wish both teams all the best and encourage Bermuda to come out and watch these talented young players compete against the rest of the Americas Region."

Mr. David Lang, Director and Secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation stated,

"Bermuda is brimming with talented young athletes and we want to support them and assist our youth teams to achieve sporting excellence.  We are pleased to support events such as the Sir Henry Tucker U15 Regional Championship which provides a great opportunity for the Island's junior cricket players to showcase their skills here at home while developing their confidence and athletic ability as they compete with their peers from throughout the Caribbean. We believe sport is an excellent vehicle in which to develop Bermuda's young people while helping them to live positive and active lives."
