Women?s National Cricket Tour

The BCB are pleased to announce that the National women?s cricket team is about to embark on its first international tour when they depart for British Colombia, where they will challenge the Canadian women?s team for the right to participate in the Women?s World Cup 2009.  This maiden tour will see the Bermudian women compete against the Canadian?s in three One Day games on the 2nd, 4th and 8th of September during an 11 day tour that encompasses 3 training days.

Mr. Reginald Pearman is quoted:

?This is an exciting time for cricket in Bermuda.  This is the first time ever that the Bermuda Cricket Board has had a National women?s team so this tour will serve as an important learning step in the general progression of women?s cricket in Bermuda.  It will be a good opportunity for the women to challenge not only the Canadian?s for the right to participate in the Women?s World Cup next year but most importantly it will provide them with vital exposure to an elevated game of competition.  I, and the BCB, wish the team all the very best and I expect that this will be the catalyst for an increase of interest in women?s cricket in general.?

Mr. Allan Douglas, the Women?s coach, had this to add:

?The women have been working very hard in the lead up to this tour so it will be good to see their skills put to test.  As this is the first National women?s team, let alone tour, we are still very much in the learning stages and so will use this tour to further implement what they have learnt in the context of an international fixture.  I feel confident that the team?s dedication will pay off and that they will come away from the tour with a wealth of vital experience to improve upon.?

The women?s team departs from Bermuda on August 30th and will return on September 10th.
