National Youth Elite Training Camp

The BCB is pleased to report the following on the first Elite Training Camp which took place from April 5 -10, 2008.

The indoor sessions included watching video analysis of their batting, bowling and fielding performances. They were introduced to sports psychology in relation to preparation, attitude, approach and tactics. In addition, the players were shown a video on commitment, responsibility and work-ethics which concentrated on the values needed in all areas of their development. Players took part in discussions and quizzes and were responsible for making a two minute presentation describing what they learnt during the programme.

The outdoor sessions included running between the wickets, bowling at targets, batting in pairs, hitting straight over the top, playing along the ground, a demonstration of the bowling actions, batting positions, fielding positions and some practical game-sense practice.

Mr. Clinton Jeremiah conducted the warm-up and conditioning sessions using drills that were designed to stimulate and increase awareness of the player's understanding of what was necessary in preparing their body and mind for competition. These included: agility work, flexibility, speed, endurance and some game-sense training.

Mr. Reginald Pearman, President of the BCB stated:

"I am extremely pleased that the BCB's first Elite Training Camp was a success. The aim of this camp was to focus on building our young player's technical ability and skill-base; to improve their physical fitness; to work with them on understanding the mental aspects of the game and to build their life skills in general. An important part of our National Programme is to introduce to the young National Players the level it takes to train on a National Team at the international level. This is an important year for our U15 National Team who will be taking part in the U15 ICC Regional Qualifier which we hope to host in Bermuda in August. This camp is excellent preparation for this tournament."

The BCB would like to thank Berkeley Institute for the use of their facilities and the following personnel who organised and assisted in the programme:

Mr. Gus Logie, Mr. Arnold Manders, Mr. Clinton Jeremiah, Mr. Irving Romaine, Mr. Peter Philpott, Mr. Andre Manders, Mr. Herbert Bascome, Mr. Dennico Hollis and Mr. Lionel Tannock.
