National Women's Team join forces with BF&M to Raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness

Pauline Girling of Bermuda Cancer and Health with Suzette Albouy, Rhoda Jones and Linda Mienzer of the Bermuda National Women's Team

Suzette Albouy (Women?s National Team Player), Allen Richardson (2nd Vice President of the BCB), John Wight C.A (President & Chief Executive Officer of BF&M), Pauline Girling (Bermuda Cancer and Health Association) and Linda Mienzer (Women?s National Team Captain).

The BCB are pleased to announce that the National Women's Team have raised an additional $500 during training to donate to the Bermuda Cancer & Health Association for Breast Cancer Awareness.

In July 2007, BF&M, the official Women's Team Sponsor, joined forces with the National Team to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. BF&M offered to donate $25 for every wicket taken in the run up to the World Cup Qualifiers. We are pleased to report that the team took 31 wickets raising $775. They also enjoyed taking part in the Bermuda Cancer and Health Walk and felt they wanted to do more. Linda Mienzer, Captain, explained, "The women squad chose to donate the money raised to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Association because, being a female team, it seemed especially fitting to make a commitment to this worthy cause. Breast cancer affects the lives of many and it is an issue that is very close to our hearts."

Pauline Girling from the Bermuda Cancer and Health Association stated, "We have asked that our donation goes towards the digital mammography equipment fund - state of the art equipment soon to be installed at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre for the detection and fight against breast cancer?."

President of the BCB, Mr. Reginald Pearman, stated: "The women's team have enjoyed being a part of this initiative with BF&M and the Bermuda Cancer and Health Association. They work well as a team and I am pleased to see them joining together to raise additional funds for breast cancer awareness. This is an exciting time for the squad. They are preparing for the World Cup Qualifiers which will take place in South Africa, February 18th - 24th. It is a tour in which the squad will experience women's cricket at a higher level. As a country in the infancy stages of women's cricket, it is a unique opportunity for our women cricketers and coaching staff to learn from those countries that have an experienced and developed programme, particularly from the larger Full Member Test Nations. I look forward to the continued growth of women's cricket in Bermuda at the National level and I hope this tournament will provide another boost to our flourishing grass roots level programme. I would like to take this opportunity to thank BF&M for their continued sponsorship of the Women's team and urge all of Bermuda to support them at the qualifiers."
