Argentina, Canada & USA Maintain winning ways on day 2

The USA women cricketers continue to dominate here in the Cayman Islands at the Jimmy Powel Oval, with a victory over Brazil by 88 runs.  Brazil won the toss and invited the USA to bat first.  The Brazilian new ball bowlers Juliana Brito and Narayana Reiner kept things quiet as only 13 runs were conceded from the first 4 overs.    This soon changed as Candacy Atkins with (35), including two 4s, and Melissa Sandy (51), with three 4s, set about a century stand for the 3rd wicket after the USA had fell to 23/2 in the sixth over.  This partnership lasted until the 18th over and eventually ended from a mixture of fatigue and trying to hit out in the dying overs.

The Brazilian run chase never got going as a wicket fell with the first ball of their innings.  Erika Reinehr was caught from behind on the first ball and things went from bad to worse as her twin sister Narayana Reinehr was bowled for (3) and then Juliana Brito was bowled for a duck.  Only Karina Lagoa with (25) put up any resistance to the USA bowling attack and at time outstanding out-fielding, Brazil can take some conciliation from batting all 20 overs if only to finish 54/9 at the end.

Over at Smith Road Oval, Canada secured victory by 77 runs, this was after Bermuda won the toss and invited the Canadians to bat first in perfect conditions for cricket, and immediately had success with the wicket.  Mahwish Khan was runout for (1) in the fifth ball of the game, but this did not damper the spirit of the Canadian batters.  Their game plan was clear, to put pressure on the Bermudian fielders with their running between wickets.  Durriya Shabbir was again the main contributor with the top score of the innings (29) runs.  Good support also came from the bats of Joanna White (18), Sheryl Tittlemier (18), Mikaela Turik (11 *), Maree Wilson (10), and Kim Coulter (10), that saw the Canadians to 150/ 8 from their 20 overs.

Bermuda in reply lost two wickets in the second over of  the innings and wickets continued to tumble, as they were mesmerized by the left hand seam of  opening bowler  Lorraine Kenton who finished with impressive figures of 4-0-8-3..Bermuda ended at 73 all out here today.

In the days second game at the Jimmy Powell Oval host Cayman Island went down to Argentina who is arguably the fittest team here at this year?s tournament. The Cayman Islands set a victory target of 80 runs and the Argentines made light work of the task.  A (44) run opening partnership by Clara Culley (26) and Veronica Vazquez (26*) put an end to any speculation the Caymanian spectators had.

Earlier the Cayman Islands won toss and elected to bat, but some energetic fielding and accurate bowling restricted the host to 79/9 from their 20 overs.  Deserene Cox (12), Wyvonne Forbes (11) and Vanessa Cameron Clarke (11) all had starts but were unable to carryon.  Argentina?s Violeta Yuli with 2/7 from her 4 overs, and Mercedes Esperon (2/17) were the main reasons the Cayman Islands will be looking to give their supporters something to cheer about in the coming games to avoid the wooden spoon here at home.
