National U-15 Team to Defend the ICC Americas Crown

The BCB is pleased to announce that the National U-15 team will depart from Bermuda on Saturday to compete in the ICC Regional tournament.  The team will be playing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in a series of games against the USA, Canada and a combined team over the duration of their stay.  As the reigning champions for the past five years the playing squad will be eager to retain the trophy this year.

The National U15 program has been generously supported by the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, the lead sponsors of the team, and has enjoyed a continued success following a recent tour to Trinidad in April.  The achievements of the program overall speaks volumes when it is considered that many of the 2001 and 2002 U15 squad members are now featured National players, such as Stefan Kelly, Malachi Jones, Oronde Bascome and Rodney Trott.

Mr. Grant Smith, the U15 National coach had this to say:

?The ICC Regional tournament will culminate an intense period of preparation for the U15 squad.  Having competed on tour in Trinidad in April, and dedicating a lot of time and energy in their weekly training sessions I feel confident that we are in with a very strong chance of holding on to the trophy.  The team as a whole has worked very hard, and I am very much looking forward to seeing them put to the challenge.?

Mr. Reginald Pearman is quoted:

?We are extremely fortunate in that the Bank of Bermuda Foundation have always been so generous with sponsoring cricket.  They have continually shown their support and we are very grateful to have them as our major sponsor of the National U15 team.  I think it is a wonderful opportunity for our youth whenever they are given the chance to compete internationally.  They are not only given the chance to have their cricketing skills tested, but also to meet and interact with youth from other countries and cultures.  We at the BCB wish them the best of luck and hope to see the trophy return to Bermuda once again.?

The U15s depart on August 26th and return on September 2nd.
