ICC Media Release FINAL DAY - Canada and USA advance to Global Qualifier The most excitement of the final day was not from the players but from the weather. A brief but heavy rain shower accompanied by miniature hurricane winds brought an abrupt end to two of three games already shortened by early morning thundershowers. Tents and chairs were tossed around as the field was drenched and pools of water made any further play impossible. The matches still is progress were decided by the D/L method. The only match completed saw the USA easily defeating the Cayman Islands by 161 runs. The USA won the toss and elected to bat they got a good start again from the top order and romped to an impressive 226/8 in their 35 overs. S.Vashishat (63) and H.Wardley (44) lead the way. Cayman Islands in reply were all out for 65 in 28 overs. Y.Shah was the USA outstanding bowler taking 3/ 12 from seven overs bowled. Bermuda started the day with a glimmer of hope of reaching the qualifier. They needed to defeat Canada and have Cayman pull off the upset of the tournament. Neither happened and it must be disappointing for a team that has always been among the best at this age level not to qualify for the World Cup. Bermuda won the toss and elected to field. It did not take long for the tournament's MVP and leading batsman, Hiral Patel to set the tone as he hammered 4 fours in the opening two overs of the game. His partner Rivindu Gunasekera was more cautious slowing the run rate to a reachable target. Patel fell short of what would have been the first century of the tournament , by five runs ,when he was caught by K.Leverock taking an excellent catch .This was the fourth half century for Patel whose lowest score in his five innings was 34. He scored a massive 305 runs in his five appearances at the crease. At the end of time in this shortened game Canada was 170/7 in the 35 overs bowled. Canada's opening bowlers sent back Douglas and Trott for one run each and that put tremendous pressure on the skipper, T.Fray and the middle order batsmen to stay on target. When the rains came in the 25th over Bermuda had replied with 111/4 with the Captain Terryn Fray on 45 not out. What would have been an interesting finish ended in a loss for Bermuda by a mere 5 runs. The result in the end was not important as the USA had already wrapped up their game on the next pitch and Canada was well ahead of Bermuda on run rate overall. In the battle for 5th place Bahamas sent into bat by Argentina scored an impressive 188/7 in their 31 overs. S.Jadoo (34) ,O.Tucker (29*)and O .Stuart (230 were the top batsmen. In reply the young squad from Argentine with 9 players capable of returning to the next U19 ,could only manage 88/7 in 22 overs when the rain fell losing their bid to remain in Division one on the D/L method by 57 runs. Canada and the USA now advance to the Global Qualifier to join Hong Kong and Afghanistan (Asia), Uganda and Sierra Leone (Africa), Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu (East-Asia Pacific). The final two qualifiers will come from Europe where play gets under way on July 14th in their regional qualifier. At the end of the tournament awards were presented in five categories: Best Batsman: H.Patel Canada Best Bowler: C.Douglas Bermuda Best Wicket keeper R.Bhatti Canada Best Fielder G.Sewdial USA MVP H.Patel Canada
