CANADA AND THE USA REMAIN UNBEATEN AFTER DAY 3

Both Canada and the USA won their games today to remain unbeaten at the U19 Americas Championship. The two teams are scheduled to play each other on Friday which now shapes up as the biggest game of the tournament.

Canada as expected won easily over Argentina by a margin of 269 runs. The home squad won the toss and elected to bat no doubt to give their middle order some practice as the first two games resulted in nine and eight wicket victories with the top order getting the job done. Again today it was Hiral Patel with his tournament leading 3rd half century that set the pace. His innings of 55 puts him on top of all batsmen with  179 scored in three games. Canada's skipper Rustum  Bhatti was top scorer with 65, all rounder Nitesh Kumar the youngest player on the squad contributed 61 and opening bowler A.Qadir made a nifty 51. Canada's innings closed at 344/9 in 50 overs. Argentina in reply could only score 76 .

The Bahamas again struggled with the bat today against Cayman Islands  . Their modest total of 75 all out would have worse had the Cayman Islands bowlers  not contribute 30 wides to the total. Dale Parker was top bowler taking 3/16 . Cayman passed their target for the loss of only two wickets in the 22nd over. It was their first victory of the tournament.

The USA and Bermuda met in what was the first 'big' game of the tournament. After winning the toss the USA got off to another great start, Ryan Corns (63), Azurdeen Mohammed (60) and Shiva Vashishat (35) put the USA in a great position but with the score at 193-4 and Bermuda looking to chase a big score there was a mighty collapse as the remaining wickets fell for 37 runs leaving Bermuda with a fighting chance of getting the target of 230 runs. The second innings followed a similar course to the first with the front line batsmen building a solid base. T.Fray (37), L.Trott (39) and C.Douglas (27) had Bermuda at 128-3 and the game very much in sight. But when Ryan Corns took the wicket of Chris Douglas who tries to drive but ended up giving an easy catch to Sewdial the walls came tumbling down as the next seven wickets could only add 31 runs and Bermuda were all out for 169 , sixty one runs short of their target.

The victory sets up the match between the USA and Canada on Friday as the potential championship game of the tournament.
