LED by a workmanlike all-round performance by Bermudan Joshua Gilbert, the ICC Americas comfortably defeated the more fancied Kenya by six wickets yesterday, as the first round of the Clico International Under-15 Cricket Championship Knock-out Competition continued.

After restricting the Africans to 133, the Americas, made up of players from Bermuda, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Canada and America, cruised to the winning target with more than 13 overs to spare.

Right-hander Gilbert captured two wickets for 11 runs with his offspin as the Kenyans elected to bat on winning the toss.

He then occupied the wicket for 129 balls striking three fours in an unbeaten 97-ball knock of 43, to steer his team to 134 for four. He was surprisingly overlooked for the Man Of The Match award which went to Americas' captain Nitisj Kumar, who bowled well for figures of three for 14 but made four runs.
