BCB Corrects Misleading Headline in the Royal Gazette
The Bermuda Cricket Board is concerned that the headline of the article in the Royal Gazette on Saturday September 25th 2010 written by Josh Ball and titled Cricket or football but don't play both, says coach Moore is incorrect and will mislead players who play both cricket and football in Bermuda. The headline infers that those players that wish to play cricket for Bermuda must make a choice and forgo playing football in the cricket off-season. This is NOT a true statement from Coach Moore nor is it his opinion. In the press conference it was made clear that Coach Moore is happy for the cricketers to play both cricket and football, which is made clear in the article itself which quotes Moore directly; "I don't mind them playing football, as long as cricket is their top priority," said Moore. "Those players that want to play cricket for Bermuda have to commit to everything we ask of them. I don't see that you can be successful if you're not fully committed, and that's the challenge because if we do get back to Division One, we'll be playing a lot of cricket." There are no dual internationals currently in the Bermuda cricket squad and therefore Moore believes that if the players in the squad want to represent their country at cricket they must have cricket as their top sporting priority and make themselves be available for both practice and tournaments that fall in the winter months. In addition, Coach Moore stated today, "I have already received great support from Somerset Cricket Club vice-President Brian Iris and his Club, who have both Malachi Jones and Dion Stovell on his roster. There has been excellent communication between Brian and myself to allow the players an appropriate balance between their commitment with the National cricket team and playing football. I look forward to meeting and developing this type of relationship with other football clubs and coaches on the island." |
