Professional Development Workshop

The BCB is pleased to announce that in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we are holding a Professional Development Cricket Coaching Workshop for primary, middle and secondary school teachers.

On Thursday 15, November, primary school physical education teachers from Government schools across the island will take part in an introductory level course, "Coaching Cricket for Primary Teachers". On Friday 16, November, "Coaching Cricket for Middle and Secondary Teachers" will take place.

The workshop will be run by Cricket Development Director, Arnold Manders, National Coach, Gus Logie and National Team Captain, Irving Romaine. They will cover the basics in teaching fielding, batting, bowling, pitch set-up, scoring.

The course is aimed:

  • To provide updated ideas for developing pupils cricket skills and tactical understanding.
  • To provide skills training to primary school teachers to enable cricket to be introduced to young cricketers in a fun and enjoyable way.
  • To provide teacher resources for teachers coaching cricket in the primary schools.
  • To show teachers how to promote different approaches to teaching and to help them to maximize the active involvement of all pupils.

Arnold Manders, Cricket Development Director stated:

"I am very pleased to see this initiative get of the ground. An important part of the BCB's development plan is to increase the number of schools who coach cricket within their curriculum and after school programmes. As part of this process we are working with schools to increase the number of girls who play the game. The Board is currently considering implementing a National U12 and U16 girls' team to provide coaching for our more promising young players. Equally important is for us to link schools with their local clubs to work together to establish a place for the youth to play more regularly."

Mr. Reginald Pearman, President of the BCB stated:

"With the popularity of our youth leagues increasing each year for both boys and girls, we are particularly pleased to be able to offer these courses to our local P.E. teachers. I am also pleased to announce that a couple of the candidates, who recently completed the ICC Americas Regional "Introduction to Cricket" Instructors Course, will be volunteering throughout the program. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Education for their collaboration in offering this service. This course is another part of the BCB's continuing commitment to increase the educational opportunities and qualifications for teachers in Bermuda and to increase the cricketing opportunities for our youth in general."
