![]() Joshua Gilbert Attend Norfolk Cricket Academy
The BCB is extremely pleased to announce that Joshua Gilbert will be attending the Norfolk Cricket Academy in the UK for the 2012 cricket season. The Bermuda Government awarded Joshua with a National Junior Elite Athlete Award to assist in funding this exciting venture. Whilst at the Academy, Joshua will receive ECB Level 4 qualified coaching in addition to regular top class domestic cricket fixtures.
This opportunity will offer Joshua the chance to train and compete with some of the top cricketers in the UK and be coached by some of the leading cricket coaches in the county. The placement will also give Joshua a chance to showcase his talents to county clubs across the UK that may lead to professional cricketing opportunities. During his time with Norfolk, Joshua will compete in the Norfolk Alliance Premier Division (AcleCC) as well as NACO and Carter Cup KO competitions (East Anglican Premier League Clubs compete in these tournaments).
National Coach David Moore stated,
"Joshua is one of the most hard working, talented and committed cricketers on the island. At only 16 years of age Joshua was selected to play in the senior team during the Americas Championship. Joshua is now a regular player in the senior team. Last year Joshua was selected as one of Bermudas Drug Free Stars. Joshua volunteers as a youth mentor to the U15 National Team and helps volunteer as a youth coach for the BCB. In March of this year Joshua assisted me with coaching the 11&Us an 8&Us at St. George's Prep and coached in our Pee Wee program. He is a humble, respectful young man and at only 18 years of age shows true promise as a future leader and role model."
President of the Bermuda Cricket Board, Mr. Lloyd Fray stated,
"On behalf of the Board I would like to congratulate Joshua on winning a National Junior Award. This is a wonderful opportunity awarded to an outstanding young cricketer role model both on and off the field. I would also like to recognise and thank the members of Somerset Cricket Club who are assisting in raising supplemental funding for Joshua to attend the Academy this year. I also thank the Department of Youth, Sports and Recreation for providing Joshua with this opportunity and for their continued support of our talented players and Bermudas athletes."
President of Somerset Cricket Club, Mr. Alfred Maybury stated,
"Somerset Cricket Club is proud of the accomplishments of Joshua, and are fully supportive of his positive achievements. Joshua is a testament to all of our young sportsmen, and young people, that if you commit yourself, opportunities will present themselves to take you further in sport and life. The Executive and Management of Somerset Cricket Club and the Somerset Community congratulate Joshua on receiving this opportunity, and we know that he will do us all proud. We also want to congratulate his parents for the support and guidance they have provided Joshua throughout, is now seeing fruit."
The Somerset CC is hosting a Pot Luck Supper on Friday 4 May, 7.30pm at Somerset CC to raise additional funds for Joshua to attend the Academy. Please call the Somerset CC club on 234 1026 if you would like to attend or give a donation. |
