![]() Jones and Tucker win awards from ICC Americas Tournament The BCB is pleased to confirm that last night ICC Americas have awarded Janeiro Tucker with MVP for the tournament. Janeiro finished second in both the batting and bowling and took seven catches (two more than any other player). Malachi Jones was awarded Best Bowler of the Tournament for taking thirteen wickets along with Janeiro Tucker and Sauid Drepaul from Suriname. It was Malachi's superior bowling average that clinched him the award.
Lloyd Fray, the President of the Bermuda Cricket Board congratulated the team, praising them for their impressive displays during the tournament.
"To qualify is a major achievement in itself," said Mr Fray. "But, to do it in a manner that garnered not only six man of the match awards and our bowlers and batsmen dominating the averages speaks volumes for how well this team played. Obviously the investment in the tour to Barbados has paid dividends."
"The World T20 affords six positions to Associate and Affiliate nations so we have a realistic opportunity in November to qualify for another World Cup. I am very happy to congratulate and recognise that efforts and performances of the squad and the support staff."
Bermuda and USA, who claimed the other Americas spot, will join hosts UAE, Papua New Guinea and the six other winners from the remaining regional qualifiers to battle it out with top Associate nations - Afghanistan, Canada, Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands and Scotland - for a spot in next year's ICC World Twenty20.
Bermuda are currently playing three practice 50 overs games v USA (Tuesday 26 March, Thursday 28 March and Friday 29 March). During the games we will provide updates on our twitter feed every 10 overs @CricketBermuda and on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/BermudaCricketBoard |
