David Shepherd Tributes
The Bermuda Cricket Board extends its condolences to the family of David Shepherd, who passed away at the age of 68 after losing his battle to cancer. Mr. Shepherd umpired 92 test matches and after he retired in 2005 was invited to Somerset Cricket Club President, Richard Scott said, "We pay tribute to a man who has been known as a great umpire in the world. His visit to Bermuda to officiate in the Annual Cup Match Classic in 2006 along with his dear and close friend Mervyn Kitchen and their wives, will be something that we all remember and cherish, particularly when we know he officiated in 172 ODI's, 3 World Cups and 92 Tests, therefore to have him add little Bermuda to his umpiring list, after he had retired, was an honour." "On behalf of the officers, members and players of Somerset Cricket Club and St. George's Cricket Club, we extend our deepest sympathy to Mrs. Shepherd and extended family of the passing of Mr. Shepherd and as he used to say to his partner when they walked to the middle, 'Good luck mate and may your God go with you' we say 'thank you Mr. Shepherd and may you rest in peace'. " Reginald Pearman, President of the BCB stated, "The BCB sends our condolences to David Shepherd's family. He was an excellent umpire and a great ambassador for the sport of cricket. He was one of the games characters and carried out his umpiring duties with integrity and class." |
