Moving Forward in 2011

Further to the ICC's recent disappointing decision to reduce the number of teams able to qualify for the 2015 ICC World Cup, the Bermuda Cricket Board is continuing to follow its strategic plans to reach the 50 Overs World Cup. However, the Board appreciates that with fewer countries competing qualification will be much harder compared to previous years.

The BCB is heartened by the increase in the number of member countries for the T20 World Cup in 2012 and beyond and we can confirm that the Bermuda Team will have a strong focus to perform well in the Regional T20 World Cup Qualifiers in 2011 (venue to be announced).

National Coach David Moore stated, "Our team focus has not changed even though we are disappointed with this decision. It is vital that our planning and preparation remain focused on the ICC scheduled events, particularly, the Division 2 tournament in April 2011. As part of an intensive and focused preparation plan the Board is investigating the possibility of a training camp/tour in Dubai in the near future. A successful tournament in April may allow us to vie for World Cup qualification in the future."

Coach Moore continued, "Not only is it important to maintain a high ranking in 50 Overs cricket, which is the main stay of the majority associate countries, we will be looking to maintain our position in the Intercontinental Shield, a four-day high performance competition for Associate countries. We also need to address the particular skills required for the T20 format so that we are successful in the regional T20 qualifier to put us in a position to reach the global qualifier which we expect to be in April 2012."

Mr. Pearman stated, "Despite the reduction of teams for the 50 Overs World Cup I am pleased to note the important decision to increase to 16 countries in the bi-annual T20 World Cup. I know David and the rest of the squad will be leaving no stone unturned in their attempts to qualify for the tournament in Sri Lanka in 2012."

Mr. Pearman concluded, "I am pleased to see that the opportunity for our U19 and Women's Team to progress to the world's highest stage remains unchanged."
