Southampton Rangers 219-9 Flatts 156Fast becoming a feature in local cricket, the father and son act of Olin and Malachi Jones stole the show at Southampton Oval again yesterday as Southampton Rangers defeated Flatts by 63 runs. Malachi was first to grab the spotlight when he struck 83 off 82 balls to help steady his team?s batting after two wickets had fallen for 52 runs. The dominant partner in a stand with opener Dion Stovell (51) that put on 68 runs, the younger Jones was in full flow as he pasted the Flatts bowlers for ten fours and three sixes before finally getting out lbw. Also contributing to Southampton?s total were Andrew Raynor with 22 while Olin Jones chipped in with 10. Nelson Bascome jr was Flatts? most successful bowler with two wickets for 27 runs. In a game reduced to 49 overs, Flatts got off to a decent start in their chase by reaching their first 50 with just one wicket down, but once Troy Dean became the second out on 59 the now inspired Rangers bowling began to dictate ? Olin Jones specifically with his devastating spin deliveries. Although Derek Wright offered some resistance with his undefeated 45, few others were able to defy the older Jones who finished with five wickets for 34 off 10 overs, including four maidens. Others reaching double figures for Flatts were opener Vernon Eve (17) and Lloyd Fray (13). Malachi, refusing to allow his pop to completely steal the show, chipped in with two wickets for 18 runs off 10 overs
