Warwick 279 Western Stars 161Player/coach Nyon Steede hammered his first century (116) in top flight cricket at St.John?s Field yesterday as he led Warwick to a convincing 118-run victory over an uninspired Western Stars outfit. Steede, who opened his team?s innings, plundered eight fours and seven sixes during an entertaining 133-ball knock that laid the foundation for Warwick?s win. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a pitch tailor-made for batting, Steede and fellow opener Chris Douglas (35) got Warwick off to a wonderful start by adding 86 runs for the first wicket before the latter departed in the 23rd over. Steede, dropped at silly mid-on when in the 20s, continued to carry the match to the hosts, adding 25 runs for the second wicket with Stephen Bremar jr (eight), 99 for the third wicket with Tyron Douglas (47) and another 27 for the fourth wicket before he was finally out, caught by Don Vickers on the long off boundary off the bowling of Justin Robinson as he attempted to lift the bowler out of the park in the 44th over. And although Stars would celebrate another wicket, that of Kyon Smith without any addition to the total, by then the horse had long bolted from the stable as Warwick virtually batted their opponents out of the match.
